Jeff's career in golf administration began in 2003 as an intern with the SCGA. He is the leader of the Association’s tournament program and serves as the staff person in charge of the SCGA Amateur Championship and the California Amateur Amateur Championships when played in Southern California. He also oversees the SCGA rules education program, which includes seminars and workshops for members and Rules Officials and the production of the Rules Crew and Know The Rules video series. He has served as a Rules Official at numerous USGA National Championships and has achieved the highest level of rating on the USGA/PGA Rules exam every year he has taken it.
Jeff lives with his wife and two children in Moorpark, CA. His interests outside of golf include travel, good food, wine and lots of laughs!
What has been your favorite SCGA Tournament experience?
"There are way too many to recollect; however, one I know I’ll remember when this is all over is watching an intern accidentally drive his golf cart into a lateral water hazard while “quickly” painting the hazard line. The next best part was watching him wade back into the lake after I told him he had to retrieve the hole location sheet that was still on the steering wheel!"
What is your favorite part about working at the SCGA?
"My favorite part about working at the SCGA is that I’m connected to my passion and the game I love every day. Running tournaments and teaching the Rules of Golf allows me to work at various places with various people involved with this great game."

Why Golf? What makes you want to work in golf?
“Who wouldn’t want to work in golf? I love sports. From the moment I was old enough to walk you’d find me running around with a baseball glove or kicking a soccer ball. I’ve played golf on-and-off for 20 years or so and, been making more and more time to get out to the course. Being able to combine my passion for marketing and analytics with my love of sports is an amazing opportunity!”

In 2008 Craig was inducted into the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame.
What would be your dream golf foursome?
"Since the premise of the question is fantasy, my “dream” foursome would be Nelson Mandela, Elie Wiesel, and John Lewis. None of them plays golf; thus, we could retire to the clubhouse for five hours, and I would be able to spend the time with three persons of truly heroic status, men who have demonstrated a level of moral, ethical and intellectual courage of which the rest of us can barely imagine, let alone live.
Why golf?
"I haven’t always worked in golf. It’s safe to say that I didn’t really “choose” golf; golf chose me. And I couldn’t be happier that it did. The persons who work in golf are quite simply the most ethical and most generous persons with whom I’ve ever had the privilege to work. And a genuine “privilege” it has been."

Frank manages the SCGA’s Communications and Marketing department, applying his more than 25 years of communications and marketing experience to the Association and its Foundation. “Working at the SCGA has allowed me to combine my profession with a life-long passion. We’re refocusing FORE Magazine, leveraging a sophisticated membership database, aligning with quality brands and committing additional resources to online and digital campaigns. We’re accomplishing a lot and we’re having fun along the way.”
Why Communications?
"Every company has a unique story to tell its customers, media, investors and employees. During my career, I’ve enjoyed working with various departments and management teams to create and deliver a persuasive story, mainly for general corporate positioning purposes, but also during times of crisis."
What's your favorite SCGA memory?
"Managing communications for the unification with the WSCGA. Using digital, print and video assets, we created a compelling value proposition to welcome and onboard the 22,000 female WSCGA members. The combination of the two organizations will broaden the appeal of an SCGA membership and reduce marketplace confusion, allowing us to attract new female golfers and expand sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

Kevin joined the SCGA in August of 2012, and will oversee utilization of the USGA Handicap System by SCGA members and member clubs, including utilization of the GHIN service, course rating as well as club services. Having worked at the Northern California Golf Association in a similar role, and then more recently in a senior management role with the United States Golf Association, his experience positions him to assist the SCGA and its members in continued successful implementation of these core programs.
Why Golf?
"Turning an avocation into a vocation seemed natural. There are so many good people involved in golf and being around these people makes work quite enjoyable."
Will your sports allegiances remain or will you become a SoCal sports fan?
"Hmmm … for a guy who grew up in Northern California, it may be difficult to break old habits. But I can guarantee that I didn’t become attached to east coast sports teams during my time working at the USGA. And Utah State, my alma mater, seems to bring out my enthusiasm regardless of how its teams fare."

Matt is married to wife, Suzy and they have five children: Kaeli, Connor, Madisyn, Dylan and Brooklyn. When he gets some down time, he enjoys relaxing at home with his family, barbequing and watching sports.
What is your most memorable SCGA experience?
"My most memorable tournament memory has to be from the 2011 SCGA Amateur Championship. The entire tournament had a buzz that was only matched by what you can feel at a PGA event. It was capped off by Patrick Cantlay winning the title in dramatic fashion in front of hundreds of cheering spectators.
My favorite course rating memory is when I rated Torrey Pines before the 2008 U.S. Open. It was pretty special being able to be on the grounds one week prior to what turned out to be quite a remarkable tournament!"
What is your favorite Rule of Golf?
"My favorite Rule of Golf is “Rule 9.1 – Ball Played as it Lies." This encompasses everything that is great about the game. You make your own breaks. I say, if you don’t like the area you found yourself playing from, then don’t hit it there! If you happen to get a bad break, deal with it and move on!"

What is your favorite Rule of Golf?"
"Rule 10 – Order of Play. Not one of the most discussed rules, but with so much information packed within the game, I really value the simple aspect of honor. The order of play is a pretty straightforward rule yet shows your fellow competitors true gamesmanship."

A native Southern Californian, in his free time Jimmy enjoys hanging out with friends, playing sports and going to the beach.
What is your favorite Rule of Golf?
"Rule 20 – Lifting, Dropping and Placing; Playing From the Wrong Place. This is one of my favorites because there is so much involved in it, that once a player or official understands Rule 20, the rest of the Rules in the book make more sense."
What has been your most memorable SCGA Tournament experience?
"As an intern with the SCGA in 2004, I was running my first qualifier on my own (a 36-hole U.S. Amateur qualifier) and five players ended up being disqualified due to various rules incidents that day. Not exactly the easiest day, but one of the biggest and best learning experiences I have ever been a part of."

Why is golf a great sport for young people to learn?
Golf is so great for young people for many reasons. It gets juniors out of the house and away from technology. It also teaches juniors so many other things aside from golf. Junior golfers learn emotional control, camaraderie and confidence through the sport!
Who is your dream foursome?
Michelle Wei West, Brooks Koepka, and Phil Mickelson! That round would be full of laughs.
You just won the lottery, now what?
Travel around the world and play all of the top golf courses.

Kevin works to expand the department’s full array of advocacy services to the Association’s member clubs, members and facilities along with various allied associations and partners. A 2011 graduate of UC Riverside with a degree in Political Science, Kevin racked up an impressive competitive record while playing golf for the men’s team. He’s also an SCGA veteran, posting a top-5 finish in the 2012 SCGA Amateur Championship.
Most recently, Kevin worked in the sales department for Cleveland/Srixon. In his new role he will focus on the SCGA’s work in water, environment, regulation, legislation and the issues specific to the game’s municipal sector. He will also begin to take much of the work already performed in these areas and organize it for long-term knowledge management.
What is your dream foursome?
"As they do not have foursomes in the final pairings in the final rounds of Major Championships, I suppose that I would have to be one of four players in an 18 hole playoff for the U.S. Open! As for the names - Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Rickie Fowler in a playoff would be quite the Monday finish!"
Why golf?
"I started going to the driving range with my Dad when I was 4 years old and since childhood, the game has been at the center of my life. I care deeply about the health and future success of our great game and I am extremely excited to work to ensure that golf has a stable and sustainable future in Southern California.
I am deeply motivated by the thought that there is a 4 year old that will visit a driving range for the first time today and I hope that our efforts will help to give the next generation of golfers every chance to play and enjoy the many opportunities that the game provides."

Why golf?
There’s nothing I can say about golf that hasn’t been said a million times before, but these things have been said a millions time before because they’re all true. It’s the greatest game in the world. No game offers what golf offers. It’s the ultimate social activity. You’re outside, for an extended period of time, usually with great friends, challenging yourself on acres of manicured landscape. No one round is like the other. The worst day on the golf course beats the best day at a desk. And golf continually rewards players of any level and any age in a myriad of different ways. The scorecard is secondary to the fellowship, banter, laughs, and camaraderie of your foursome. Why golf? Because it’s the best game. And who wouldn’t want to work in an industry serving and shepherding the best game?
Dream foursome?
I’m going to ask the starter for a favor and get six people out there; my mom, my dad, my three brothers, and me. I don’t want to play with Tiger or any other TOUR pro. I’d be too nervous and golf isn’t fun for me when I’m nervous. At my age, I’d want to have four uninterrupted hours with my family—laughing and slapping the ball around and staying off our phones. Usually family-time like that is reserved for holidays. And holidays are full of obligations and stress. To have my family on the golf course, in a big group, would be a dream.

Why sports and specifically marketing?
I have always been a firm believer that media and marketing is part art and part science. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to be both creative and analytical, using each to define the story, create the story and deliver the story. On top of that, I have been fortunate to do it all working in the sports category. Having played, coached and been a fan of sports throughout my life, the opportunity to combine passion with my career has been a tremendous opportunity.
What is your dream golf foursome?
Outside of the chance to play with a four-generation foursome of my son, myself, my dad and grandpa, I would line up the guys below and have a great day:
Mr. Arnold Palmer: Trendsetter, business mogul, champion and gentleman. It would have been an honor just to have met him.
George Strait: Hopefully I would be able to get the King of Country to sing a few of his hits as we walk the fairways.
Samuel L. Jackson: He’s the baddest man in Hollywood and he loves the game. I’m sure he has some amazing stories that I would hopefully be able to coax out of him.

Why golf and more specifically, kids?
Golf is a game where there’s really no barrier to entry in terms of age. No matter how young or old you are, you can get out on the course and have a good time. I was blessed growing up to have the support of not just my family, but also a number of coaches and individuals who I looked up to and helped guide me to where I am today. I believe everyone should have somebody like that in their life, and that is possible through SCGA Junior.

Why golf?
"I've always wanted to work in sports, and what better place is there to work than a golf course? I'm outdoors, surrounded by incredible scenery and great people. Golf is such an unpredictable sport, and that's what I love most about it. Course conditions, weather and other elements outside of the player's control are never consistent from one day to the next, so it's a never-ending adjustment. As I've become more engulfed in the sport and understanding of its intricacies, my passion for promoting the game has only grown larger. Golf is a game that always leaves you wanting more, and I'm fortunate to be able to turn this passion into a career."

The platform for golf’s future must be based on thoughtfulness, understanding and acknowledgement. If golf remains committed to those three attributes, meaningful sports and social progress remains possible.
The SCGA was started in 1899 with five member clubs—Los Angeles CC, Pasadena CC, Riverside Golf and Polo, Redlands CC, and Santa Monica CC. We've come along way since then...
